Research group

Our goal is to develop and strengthen the research within the field of cultural economics in cross-institutional and international collaboration, solving economic and managerial problems in cultural sector (private and public), and deepening understanding of cultural phenomena with economic and econometric tools. We are interested in culture understood in both ways: as arts, so called high culture and entertainment, and as the totality of human creation, i.e. an institution type which affects many areas, including the economy.

We connect people who specialize in different methodologies. We are building our team on the already existing network of scientists form the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw.

We want to provide an organizational framework facilitating mutual cooperation in the field of cultural economics in research and didactics for diverse departments of the University of Warsaw, researchers from other universities in Warsaw and Poland, and cultural economists from Central and Eastern Europe.

We are endorsed by the Association for Cultural Economics International.

We provide a range of courses related to cultural economics, offering basic and in-depth knowledge in the field. We cover the basics as part of the “Economics of Art and Culture” course that focuses on the so-called high culture. In the course, we discuss economic and managerial problems related to the public support for culture and the value of culture for society. The course is offered in English for students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, but also for the broader community of the University of Warsaw. We also invite students to write BA and MA thesis under our supervision as part of the seminars “Music, theater and digitisation. Economics of culture and digital entertainment” and “Consumption of cultural goods” – also at the Faculty of Economics Sciences.

We count on highly-motivated students with well-defined interests. If you are interested in doing a PhD in cultural economics – we will be happy to support you in this process. We are also engaged in providing courses in more detailed areas of cultural economics, like “Economics of theater” and “An introduction to theater production” as lecturers at The Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw.
